At a dinner party recently the guest of honor, a young man, who grew up with my son, told of finding a photograph I took of my son when he was eighteen months old, drinking from a hose and peeing at the same time on a postcard in Durango, Colorado.

I noted that I did not know about the postcard and had never been paid for the use of the photograph, which I had placed with an agent in New York in the 1970s.

This was the second time I learned about the use of the image without permission or payment. Several years ago, my brother-in-law found the image on the door of the men’s room in a restaurant in Columbus, Ohio.

I googled, “A baby boy peeing while drinking out of a hose,” and found that the restaurant was part of a chain and the picture was everywhere.

I made a stink. On my next trip to Columbus, I had dinner at the restaurant. My husband checked out the men’s room and found the picture gone.

I would post the image, but WordPress might consider it pornagraphy.

So, if I am not around for a few days, it is because I am putting copyright notices on the images I have posted on this blog.

Not only are the images copyrighted, but so are the words.

  1. Quinta, was there no way to “bill” all these places for use of the photo?

  2. Thanks, Wendy. All the images on the blog are scanned to 72dpi and are six inches wide.
